UCP User Needs and Requirements
Last October #EUSpace users from a range of market segments participated in our annual User Consultation Platform (UCP).

EUSPA’s mission is to be the user-oriented operational Agency of the EU Space Programme, contributing to the sustainable growth, security and safety of the European Union. With users at the centre of this mission, the regular consultation implemented under the User Consultation Platforms (UCP) is essential.

“The annual UCP is an exciting opportunity for business and industry leaders, entrepreneurs, service providers, innovators and space user communities to express their needs and requirements, share best practices and present case studies,” says EUSPA Head of Market, Downstream and Innovation Fiammetta Diani.

Last year’s UCPs addressed the needs of such key market segments as agriculture and forestry, environment (including climate and biodiversity), rail, public transport, road and auto, SST, space and resilient societies.

The outcomes of these sessions have since been carefully analysed, transformed into concrete actions and published as a series of reports on user needs and requirements per market segment.

“These reports provide an in-depth look at the EU Space market and examine the limitations, technological trends and main drivers relating to the uptake of GNSS, Earth Observation and secure SatCom data and services across different market segments,” adds Diani.

Looking ahead to the 2024 User Consultation Platforms

By creating an engaged network of innovators, the User Consultation Platforms play a key role in shaping the evolution of the EU Space Programme and its services. For example, past UCP sessions directly contributed to the development of such services as EGNOS for non-air traffic service environments, the Galileo remote beacon activation and the use of Copernicus for drone safety cases.

But as the EU Space Programme continues to evolve, so too do the needs of its users. That’s why the 2024 UCP is set to continue, and we will have a special look at how the synergetic use of GNSS, EO and secure SatCom can benefit such market segments as:

  • Aviation
  • Drones
  • Maritime
  • Fisheries
  • Emergency Management & Humanitarian Aid
  • Insurance & Finance
  • Infrastructure (including 5G)
  • Energy
  • Raw Material
  • Urban Development, Tourism and Cultural Heritage
  • Consumer Solutions and Health
  • Timing and Synchronisation

“Leveraging the central role users play in shaping EU Space applications, the outcomes of this year’s UCP will once again help define the service provision and ensure EU Space works for everyone,” concludes Diani.

SAVE THE DATE for the 2024 UCP scheduled for 8 October
